õppejõud oli juba tund aega järjest jahunud täiesti teemast mööda kui ma kuulsin petrilt sellist lauset:”Filosoofid ei arene kunagi.”Pidin nõustuma…ja naerma. Inka ka võtsin nagu lubatud…see tähendas täna varast ärkamist (8.15 algas tund) ja ma arvan et ma jään sinna…õpetaja on ka normaalne.Ja mandyle maailma suurim aitäh.

ma pean inka võtma

lauril oli mingit esseed või kirjandit vaja nirvanast / kurt cobainist ja ma lahkelt oli nõus tegema ka kuna nüüd on sess läbi ja aega piisavalt. ja ma ei oska absoluutselt inglise keeles kirjutada. tõeline katastroof. igatahes kui kunagi nüüd võimalus tekib inkat deklareerida, siis ma võtan…saabki ainepunkte ka rohkem kokku.kui kedagi huvitab, siis selline sai, ma loodan et lauri inka õpa teda ära ei söö:P  

Kurt Cobain and Nirvana

Preface / The road to Nirvana / Early years of Kurt

Kurt Donald Cobain, one of the most loved music icons of the ninties was born on February 20, 1967 in a small town called Aberdeen, USA. Kurt started to show interest towards music from very young age, even before he could read or write, he would sing The Beatles’ – “Hey Jude”.
Kurt’s life changed dramatically at the age of seven when his parents had a divorce. From that point on he was more withdrawn and for some years lived in various places, not only by his mother and father but also by his friends, unlocked basements and for a while even under a bridge of Wishkah river – later he wrote a song called “Something in the way” about that experience.
For his 14. birthday Kurt’s uncle gave him an electric guitar and Kurt started learning songs from AC/DC and The Cars on it. Some months later he started writing some of his own songs and lyrics that would feature on his first albums with Fecal Matter – his first band, and Nirvana.
After dropping out of high-school two weeks before graduation Kurt’s mother evicted him from her house and Kurt started working in some coastal resort and rented himself a house for the pay. At that time he also started going to rock concerts more often where he made friends with Krist Novoselic, who would become as the bass player for Nirvana later on and Chad Channing.
A band called Fecal Matter had been formed. They never recorded any albums nor had much fans among the audinece of their shows. About a year later Kurt started looking for a new drummer, as he was not pleased with Chad Channing and found someone called Dave Grohl. Nirvana was born.

The struggle and success of early Nirvana

It was the year 1987 and Nirvana had just been formed. Mostly playing to somewhat small number of people they were starting to be noticed by some. After moving to Seattle Kurt, Krist and Dave spent some time in a studio putting together what would be the first album of Nirvana. $606.17 was the exact amount of money that they spent on the production and distribution of their first album “Bleach”.
For everyone’s surprise the album did quite well, even recieving some good reviews from music critics. One has to bear in mind that the year was 1989, the time of hair metal bands and it seemed completely impossible for some new band out of nowhere playing really angry and raw punk to succeed.
Although “Bleach” had been quite a success for Nirvana, it did not make them rich or famous by any means.
There was a slight problem for critics and actually for quite some people in music scene with Nirvana. They sounded like nothing ever before. They could not be fitted in any existing genre. “Grunge” was the word they came up with to describe Nirvana and it spread quite rapidly as the sound of Nirvana really was grungy and dirty.

Breakthrough and mainstream years.

It took Kurt and Nirvana about three years to put together their next album. It was called Nevermind and as Nirvana had signed a deal with SubPop Records, it was quite a bit easier for them to release the album all over USA and in Europe as well. SubPop hoped that they would be able to ship and sell up to 250 000 copies of “Nevermind”. They could be more wrong in their predictions.
A week before Nevermind was put to sale MTV started showing a music video “Smells like teen spirit” off “Nevermind” – a song that would be the anthem for youth and rebellion throughout the 1990′s. Nevermind was instantly sold out and SubPop responded to that quickly and pressed another 400 000 copies of it in every week for half a year. It was not enough, Nevermind was selling more quickly than 400 000 copies a week. It was obvious to all concerned that it was a breakthrough for Nirvana and they were the next big thing.
In early 1992 Nirvana reached #1 in Billboard charts, replacing Michael Jackson.
2 100 000 people attended Nirvana concert in Rio in mid-1992, one of the biggest crowds that any band has ever performed to.
Kurt himself was also extremely popular among his fans and media alike, mainly because of his simple lifestyle, charisma and intelligence. Intelligent he was indeed, in spite of dropping out he loved to read books in school library for countless hours. His favourite one was “Perfume” by Patrick Suskind, he even wrote a song about it called “Scentless apprentice” that can be found on “In utero album”.

Fame

There was a downside to all this popularity. Kurt was a loner by his nature and did not like all this popularity and attention. There was an occasion he heard someone had raped a young girl after Nirvana concert and sang Nirvana’s “Polly” at the same time. Kurt was extremely distressed when finding that out and even considered disbanding Nirvana and starting a regular daytime job.
When writing songs for their next album Kurt tried to go more back to their roots, to write something more raw and not so mainstream. By that he would actually try to make less successful album.
Few months after their “Nevermind”-success Kurt got married with the frontwoman of “Hole”, a Seattle punk-rock band. On August 18 1992, the couple’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, was born.
After the birth of Kurt’s daughter Nirvana spent most of the time in the studio recording new songs for In Utero that was released merely a year after “Nevermind”. Although Kurt had tried to go to more of an underground sound to repel mainstream audience their album still topped the Billboard chart.
In the end of 1993 Nirvana gave their most well-known concert – Nirvana unplugged in New York, that was actually an acoustic performance. It would be recorded and sold as a video record afterwards as the studio only fitted few hundred people.
When Nirvana was on another tour in the beginning of 1994 a disaster struck the band. Cobain had overdosed drugs and was rushed to a hospital in a coma. Although he managed to get out of the coma and recover, he only had one month and one day to live.

Death of Cobain and the end of Nirvana

Officcially Kurt’s death was caused by “a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head” but there have been many rumours around that theory. It is a fact that Kurt was a cocaine addict that he actually started taking to relieve his chronical stomach ailment, he had overdosed/tried to kill himself before and he wasn’t pleased with the direction where Nirvana was heading. Kurt shot himself in the mouth using a big caliber shotgun on Friday, April 5, 1994. As he had almost no friends nobody even noticed his dissapearance until 3 days later an electrician found his body in his house in Seattle. Kurt’s wife was on tour in Europe at the same time.
The news of Cobain’s death spread like wildfire. A day after that it seemed that the entire youth of the world was mourning him, even in Estonia children had cried the entire day while in school.
Shortly after that a vigil was held in memory of Kurt Cobain in the center of Seattle, where thousands of his fans came together to pay final resprects to their hero.

Murder theories

Immediately after Cobain’s death rumors about his death started to circle. One must admit that there really were some unclear issues involved. Firstly as Cobain was quite short it is said that if he had put his shotgun in his mouth it would be impossible for him to reach the trigger, he had 5 times the lethal dose of cocaine injected so he wouldnt even be able to lift the gun, the pen that he had used to write a suicide note didn’t have any fingerprints on it, he wasn’t depressed at the time etc.
Even with all these evidence pointing to murder most of people close to Cobain didn’t see the suicide as a surprise. Even Kurt’s mother Wendy told that she knew that “Kurt is going to join that stupid 27 club”. By that she meant all those famous rock starts who had passed away at the age of 27 (Jim Morrisson, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain).

Aftermath

After Kurt’s funeral the remaining Nirvana members Krist and Dave realised that there is no Nirvana without Kurt and so Nirvana had ceased to exist on April, 5, 1994. Krist went on to form a band called Sweet 35 that turned out to be a failure and continued in politics for some odd reason.
Dave on the other hand had no intention of going to politics and formed “Foo Fighters”, quite a successful band right from the beginning to current day.
By the end on 1994 the New York unplugged show had hit the stores and was again a great success as Kurt’s suicide had had a positive impact on Nirvana’s popularity and “Unplugged in NY” went on to become even more popular than “Nevermind” had been.

There are tens and tens of books written about Nirvana and Kurt, even some movies on his life, “Smells like teen spirit” was voted in 2000 as the best song ever by the MTV, behind it were “Stairway to heaven”, “Like a rolling stone” and several Elvis Presley’s songs.
“Nirvana – the band that defined a generation” was a headline in NY Times, “The day when music died” was on the front page of Daily Telegraph the day after Kurt’s suicide. Kurt is someone who is still missed by many even in 2008 and Nirvana’s fanbase hasn’t gone anywhere, their unofficial website is still getting 100 000 visitors every day.
All those people are missing their idol and hero – Kurt Donald Cobain.

uus ülevalolekurekord (ehk sess on lõppenud)

nii…sellest kui ma viimati magasin on möödas mingi 55-56 tundi ja ma tunnen ennast poolsurnuna. hommikul jõudsin korralikult eksamile ja eksam ei läks ka päris hästi. sain 44 punkti 50-st. kuni mingi 12ni päeval suutsin üsna viisakalt üleval püsida ja siis tuli maailma kõige metsikum uni…läksin siis voodisse ja nii kui ma olin suutnud unele veidi läheneda helistas triinu ja ütles, et ma lubasin ta sööma viia. olin tõesti lubanud…ja unustanud ka:Pte ei kujuta ette kui unine ma olin. mõtlesin et kui ma eriti külma dušši alt läbi hüppan, siis see aitab…veidi aitaski aga selleks ajaks kui ma olin trolli jõudnud olin ma sama unine ja pea oli ka täiesti märg…läksime siis kompressorisse. ma polnudki varem sattund sinna, maria rääkis et seal on maailma parimad pannkoogid aga kunagi koht on alati täis, siis pole sinna praktiliselt pääseda võimalik. igatahes meil vedas ja saime süüa…vanalinna kohta üsna hea hinnaga ka…siis pidime käime zarast keni juures läbi mingeid noote võtmas ja mind tiriti igasugustesse viru poodidesse mis olid kõik samasuguste nimedega ja müüsid samasugust kraami…vero moda ja terranova ja terramoda:Pkuidagi õnnestus meil märkamatult paar tundi ära kulutada ja kenil töö lõppes ja liikusime ta juurde. väiksed joogid võtsime ka igaks juhuks. istusime siis roosikrantsis mõned ajad ja kui ma olin kokkukukkumise äärel, siis tulin ära ja nüüd ma lähen magama…ilmselt esmaspäevani. head ööd:)

tere varahommikust

umbes 4 tunni pärast algab mul eksam. java programmeerimine. tegelikult oli mul küll plaanis magama minna peale maurusest tulekut aga…plaanid muutusid…eriti tänu kristiinale, kes väga lahkelt minuga pea kogu öö jutustas ja muusikat saatis niiet nüüd on mul paariks päevaks vähemalt uue muusika vajadus rahuldatud.

ma kohe tahaks näha kas ma pean reede õhtuni magamata vastu…kui ma õigesti mäletan, siis rekord peaks mul vist olema 43 tunni ringis…aga ma vist ei hakka üritama seda üle teha.

svenssonil oli juba neljapäeval eksam ära ja ta kadus võrru kuhu ma ise vist see nv ei liigu sest ma pean niikuinii järgmine nädal võru-tallinn trassi neli korda läbima. mul on juba ette oma persest kahju. kunagi peaks tartus ka jälle peatuma aga vaevalt see enne korni juhtuda saab…igatahes maailma tahaks veel…ja rokiklubisse ka kui seal midagi head on.

ahjaa…üks asi veel…mis kurat sellega on, et kõik mind unes näevad? ja miks ma kõigi unedes tühja panen? ja tegelikult veel üks asi. et mingi päev ma kirjutasin et mingi hunnik inimesi on mu lehel jõudnud otsingu “how to kill youself with carbon monoxide poisoning” järel…ma tean mis süüdi on. mu pisikese õe blogi, mille title on kill yourself:P muuda ära, veenilõikureid ma siia ei taha:D

P.S. Kui sel nädalal Erikat näete, siis öelge talle, et ta selge kõlava häälega “jaa” ütleks kui ta endale Gibsoni Les Pauli tahab või midagi sarnast ja jälgige reaktsiooni (soovitav oleks ka pilte teha). Ehk siis head mandliparandamist;)

java eksami eelsed hommikud…

on jubedad. Magama sain kunagi hommikupoole ööd ja tõusin ka ilgelt vara. Või no tõusin ainult niipalju et ma olin jalgadel ja voodist väljas ja pesema läksin…üldiselt ma ikka magasin. Läksin siis TTÜsse ja te ei kujuta ette kui libe oli…alguses ma vaatasin et lihtsalt veidi jäine aga siis käisin korra selili ja liikusin aeglasemalt.  Ja siis ma nägin maailma kõige koomilisemat pilti…mingi mammi oli ka kukkumise äärel ja tegi kätega mingeid liigutusi nagu üritaks lendu tõusta…püsti jäi. aga edasi ta enam ei liikunud…ühe jala varbaga katsus kui libe tee on aga liigutada enam ei julgenud…seda oli nii hull vaadata, te ei kujuta ette:P TTÜs olin ma ikka nii unine ja mõtlesin et raudselt ma jään oma söögi sisse magama. otsustasin selle suurepärase hetke jäädvustada kui ma nägin välja nagu zombi. Mingil ajal siis käisin java teist KT-d tegemas. Läks normaalselt, pääsen eksamile. Pärast käisime veel petri ja svenssoniga sööma… hiljem käisin linnas javat õppimas ja kristiines toitu ostmas…tegelikult küll kristiine oli suletud miskipärast (nagu üldse enamus kohti kus ma viimasel ajal käin) ja pidin edasi linnu tee rimisse minema.ülehomme on eksam. õnneks on mul piisavalt punkte koos et läbi saamises olen ma üsna kindel.ja siis veel asi mis mind täna hommikul äratas…keegi anni soovis nimepäeva puhul õnne. väga armas temast. (aga järgmine aasta saada hiljem;) ).

Rock Summer 2008

Teate mis oli Rock Summer? Kui oled käinud laulupeol või michael jacksonil või metallical kui nad lauluväljakul esinesid ja vaatasid et küll on persetäis rahvast…siis obviously ei ole sa käinud summeril.

sellisel ajal kui eesti lippu ei saanud välja tuua, ja kogu NLis ei esinenud praktilised ükski lääne bänd toodi lauluväljakule sellised kuradi geeniused nagu EMF, Iggy Pop (The Stooges), Candy Dulfer, Run DMC, Liam Gallagher (Oasis), Paradise Lost, Overkill, Johnny Rotten (Sex Pistols), Steve Hackett (Genesis),Stone…ahjaa…Beck ka loomulikult. and many more.

Mõlemad filmitud rock summeril ja teine video sai üsna kuulsaks…seda aia mahalõhkumist näidati mingi aeg vahetpidamata MTV öises programmis.

täna hommikul oli makroökonoomika eksam…jah, see on vähemalt sama igav kui kõlab. lõpetasin esimesena, sain 81%. ei kurda. järgmine eksam  – java (selle puhul ilmselt kurdan).
